According to Indian festival list today is Husband's day. It's called Karva Chauth in Hindi. It is a long known tradition where married women fast whole day to pray for their husband's long life. And fasting means no eating or drinking till 4pm in the afternoon. At 4pm you do the prayers and can have something to drink. However, you have to wait till the moon rise to eat something. It's quite hard. All women dress up in traditional indian outfits, wear beautiful jewellery and henna. And the best part is you get gifts lol. I say well deserved, as this fast is a bit too much.
Now this is how it is done traditionally. But in my 5 years of marriage my husband has always kept this is fast with me to keep me company. In India it's winter and in New Zealand it's summer so the moon rise takes a long time. So my husband has found a way to see the moon early. he has an app on his phone which tells you the direction of the moon and you can see it on the phone lol. Had to improvise otherwise we would stay hungry till 11pm.
I try to celebrate all the festivals my family celebrate so our kids know about the festivals when they talk to their grandparents. And in general its good to know about different things around the world.
This is year however I am not fasting as I am still breastfeeding my three month old and I would die if I even try to fast. As you know from my earlier post that I love food and especially when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Although that does not mean I cannot dress up. So I have decided to take out some traditional Indian things I have. I will be wearing a red cotton tunic with stone work on it.

I am confused between two earrings and hope I will make up my mind by the time I dress up. One is a self carved gold tear drop earrings with crystals on it and the other ones have beautiful stones and pearls on it.

I will also wear green stone ring with crystals, silver anklets with cute owls, toe rings and a bangle.

This is pouch in case I want to take all the jewellery off and keep it safe lol.

It should be fun dressing up and I wish all the women good luck who are observing this fast.

And the shoes. Outfit is not complete without the shoes. I have these traditional leather shoes. Very pretty and very comfortable.
