Well, what is op shopping? It’s as I call it ‘opportunity shopping’. Most of us know what op shopping is and if you know me, you would know I love op shops. It’s like treasure hunting for me. For me op shopping is everything I believe in, it’s a great way to save money and by buying from a charity retail store we help people and planet. With a fast changing fashion trends there is so much waste everywhere, but this a topic for next time. So back to op shopping... before we start here’s some stuff I got from op shops:
1. Original Vans $5

2. Stunning brand new Forever New heels $7

3. Forever New heels $7

4. Platform heels $3

5. Crocs $4

6. Country road shirt $2, belt $2, knit skirt $4. Whole outfit = $8

7. Witchery Top $4

8. Dotti dress $8

There are few things I have learnt about op shopping over the years:
1. Op shops are full of high fashion and one of a kind styles. You just need to go in with a open mind and you will be surprised with stuff you will find.
2. You need to treat it as normal shopping experience. Don’t just get things because it’s cheap. Buy the pieces you would use the most and that would last you a long time.
3. See what is trending, i.e. do some research on current fashion trends to get some inspiration on the clothes you would be looking for.
4. Try some DIY. If you really like something and it’s not your size or a slightly different style, try and be creative with what you can do with a piece. For e.g. I bought these cullotes the other that were size 12 and I am size 6. But when I looked at the pants I could see how I could take it in and make it my size, so I did and it costed me $3.
Op shopping is much more than just finding cheap stuff. It’s part of sustainable living. It’s unbelievable how much wasteful we are as humans. We owe it to Mother Nature to be more conscious of the decision we make. May be this could be the first step towards it. One step, one thought, one action will cause a big change.
