Keeping the house clean is an impossible task when you have a toddler at home. It's not on my priority list either but every once in a while it's nice to wake to a clean and organised house. Or not watch your step while walking.

Having babies have completely made me realise that first of all it's not important to clean the house and secondly you can't do it anyways hehehehe. I have learnt the hard way. If you are anything like me trust me I have over exhausted myself trying to take care of the babies, trying to keep the house clean and trying to work as well. EXHAUSTED.

Now that my toddler is almost three I can tell him to tidy up after he is finished playing. For this, I have made some DIY storage boxes where he can store his toys. I have assigned different boxes for different things. So he knows, when he picks up red box all the cars go back in there. This works for him.

Here's a before and after shot of my house and his room.

The supplies I used to make this happen:

1. Nappy cardboard boxes (if you have kids you will have heaps of them, otherwise any cardboard box will do)

2. Wrapping paper (Dollar shop)

3. Tape or glue

4. Scissors

5. Paper cutter

6. Mug (to keep the supplies safe from the toddler)

7. Old Shoe Rack (I wanted to stack the boxes in one place. You need to have this. You can store boxes anywhere you like)

Steps:

1. Cut the boxes using the paper cutter so it looks like this

2. Cover it with your favourite wrapping paper. I love owls so I got the owl wrapping paper. I used tape to stick the wrapping paper. I find glue a bit messy. You can use tape or glue.

3. Final product

It took me 7 minutes to make one box. Mind you I had my son distracting me in the middle too :D. I made four boxes and organised it on the shoe rack.

My house looks like this now and to my surprise it still looks like this after two weeks.
