My Fitness Journey

I started my fitness journey after my first son was born in 2014. Before that, I did't even realise that I had to get in shape and be more healthy. I was very fit growing up, into sports and athletics. However as soon as I passed high school I stopped all my physical activities trying to focus on studies. It got worse from there.

When I moved to New Zealand in 2010 I weighed 114 lbs. The busy life and poor eating habits made me put on a lot of weight. Even though I was aware that I have a family history of diabetes and blood pressure I didn't fully realise that I was unhealthy. I was living in denial. In my head I was still that girl at school who was really fit.

In 2014, when I got pregnant with my first baby we went to see the doctors and when I got weighed I couldn't believe I was 145 lbs. It's a lot for a little person like me. Also, you are likely to gain at leat 10kgs more when you are pregnant. I was in shock and the doctor started asking questions about my family history so they can make sure the pregnancy progresses safely.

As she was asking the questions I could see myself coming out of the denial and accepting the fact that I had put on weight and I had to get healthy for my family. The doctor asked me to stay active during the pregnancy. Due to the family history of diabetes doctor kept sending me for blood test to make sure I didn't had gestational diabetes.

Everything went well with pregnancy but my son was born a month early. He did really well and is a gorgeous boy. I weighed 165 lbs and 153 lbs after he was born. I did the math in my head, if my baby was born on his due date I would have been at least 6 lbs more heavy. I made a promise to myself that the next time I need to be 125 lbs before I get pregnant.

I still remember the first day I went for a walk after my baby was born. I couldn't catch my breath. My stamina was zero, I know I had to get back up and keep going. I was able to achieve my goal and got pregnant with my second baby in 2015 and weighed 125 lbs. This time I know exactly what I have to do to loose the baby weight. I am four months post baby and have already started my workout routine. Bring on the healthy and fit me...

How I am doing it and the things I have learnt during this process will be documented in my next post.
